This is where you really can take a trip back into history, giving full reign to your imagination whilst discovering just what Roman life was like.
The Dewa fortress remains buried beneath Chester, but here above ground you enter the world of the Roman's by trying on a Roman headdress or the suit of a Roman soldier, by touching the everyday utensils they would have used, such as items of pottery, and you can try your hand at designing mosaic. Here in the Roman Galley almost everything is "hands on" and all that you see and handle is as authentic as possible.
After visiting the Galley visitors move on to a breath-taking recreation of a Roman street. This is just as it would have appeared inside the fortress, and gives you an amazing opportunity savour the sounds, sights and smells that were commonplace 2,000 years ago.
An archaeological dig, complete with real Roman artefacts discovered in Chester, and on other Roman sites in England, makes a grand finale to a truly mesmerizing experience which is thrilling for both children and adults.
The site is open all the year round except for Christmas Day and Boxing Day. There is a Gift Shop on the site, and refreshment facilities can be found close-by.
